Q. What is the Singapore Good Design Mark?

Singapore Good Design Mark or SG Mark was first launched in 2013 in collaboration with the prestigious Japan Good Design Mark. It serves to set a benchmark for design quality and to endorse products and projects that incorporate exceptional design to enhance living and increase productivity.

Entries which fulfil the criteria for the Mark may use the logo on their products, stationery, and marketing collaterals as a symbol of design excellence.

Q. What are the Award Categories?

There are four main categories for this year’s SG Mark.

  1. Life (Business to Consumer)

    - May include lifestyle or personal, business to consumer products and communication products or projects. Products can range from apparel, furniture to residential housing design. Communication includes graphic designs, UX, UI etc.

  2. Industry (Business to Business)

    - May include equipment, industrial spaces and furniture. Communication includes branding, identity and annual reports.

  3. Social category

    - Mainly for the education, medical and research sectors, including both product and communication products as well.

This year's special category of Smart Design aims to promote the process of creating new approaches and solutions to address existing challenges. It is a call to push the boundaries to improve or re-invent the way individuals, businesses and government agencies operate, engage and interact.

Q. What projects/products are eligible for submission?

Products/projects that are already in the market or in the pre-launch stage can be submitted. It should either be already in the market or available by the time the results are released. All submissions must be available for promotional activity.

Q. How should I present my Award Submission?

Entries should be submitted in this format:

  • Project details and write-up based on the evaluation criteria
  • Contact details
  • 3-5 hi-res images
  • Read through the T&Cs
  • Each project/product will require an individual submission.

Q. What is the selection process like?

Award-Winners who go through the 1st screening to the 2nd screening are required to present and showcase physical products to a panel of judges during Singapore Design Week 2019.

Selected architectural and interior design projects may have on-site screening. International projects may have their presentation done via video call. Failure to present may result in disqualification.

Q. Why are there two screenings?

All submissions will go through the 1st round of screening by our jury panel made up of esteemed international and local jurors. Award Winners will be selected after the 1st screening and be notified of the 2nd screening. The 2nd screening will be a physical presentation of the product or project to determine the top award winners for the SG Mark.

Q. Is there a pre-determined number of Winners each year?

No. The number of Winners will depend solely on the quality of submissions received for the various categories each year, scored by a panel of esteemed local and international judges from various disciplines of design.

Q. Is there an application fee imposed upon entry of submission?

Yes, there is an application fee of $200 for each entry. Submissions are deemed complete only after payment is received.

Q. When is the submission deadline?

Submissions must reach the Award Secretariat by Friday, 4 January 2019, 12 noon. Participants will be notified via email upon receipt of submission.

Q. When will I be notified if I am awarded the SG Mark?

SG Mark winners will be notified in February 2019. SG Mark winners must make full payment of the Award-Winner package fees and attend the 2nd screening of the physical products.

Q. When is the SG Mark Exhibition?

SG Mark winners' exhibition will take place during the Singapore Design Week in March 2018 and at the DBCS Gala Dinner in May 2019. Exhibition details will be sent along with the winners' notification in February 2019.

Q How are the winners’ announced?

Winners of the SG Mark will be announced and publicised through our website, social media sites and print. Select winners may also be interviewed for news features.

Q. What is the DBCS Awards Night and Gala Dinner?

Set to commemorate the best of the design industry, the gala dinner is an extravagant black-tie affair where designers and business leaders connect and celebrate the industry. Platinum, Gold and/or Special Mention winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner.
